A WILD DOUBLE HEADER AT STORY FIELD
The top ranked Tacoma Titans and the Lower Columbia Red Devils battled back and forth in a highly entertaining double header at Story Field Monday Night May 5th.
The Titans proved why they are now 34-2 by sweeping the twin bill 6-4 and 4-3 in 11 innings.
The first game saw the Titans give undefeated starter Justin Vernia a 4-2 lead after 6 innings. Devils starter
Trevor Lane was making his first pitching appearance since March 22nd and he gave up three runs in four innings.
Kyle Rossman came in a did a great job in relief, allowing just one hit with six strikeouts in five innings. The one hit he gave up was a solo homer to Joel Moore.
Makaio Mobbs had an RBI triple and
Justin Jacobs had two hits and an RBI.
Tanner Marty had two hits.
The nightcap was a seven inning affair that went 11. LCC had numerous opportunities to get the win, but the Titan bullpen was tough with spectacular defense behind it.
Tanner Olson was outstanding for LCC, going seven innings allowing just three runs.
Tyler Gulbransen took the loss, but allowed just one run in four innings of relief.
Peter Lecce's clutch two run single gave LCC a 2-1 lead in the third. He had two hits in the game.
Cooper Mickelson had two hits.
With the losses, the Devils are locked into the #3 position in league and will be traveling for a playoff at either Tacoma or Pierce. Meanwhile, the team will head to Tacoma on Tuesday May 6th to complete a halted game from the past weekend. The Devils will have a runner on first with no outs in the top of the 5th, trailing Tacoma 2-0 when play resumes.
The final home games of the regular season will be Friday May 9th when the Grays Harbor Chokers come to Story Field for a 5 pm double header. The Red Devil sophomores will be honored prior to game one.
