The Lower Columbia baseball team dropped a pair of intense West Region playoff games on Saturday May 17th. Tacoma won both games of the best-of-three series, winning 6-4 and 8-2 at Minnitti Field.

The Devils were a foot short of winning the first game as Trevor Lane hit a deep fly to centerfield that was caught at the top of the wall. If the ball clears the fence, the game was tied. Instead the game ended, putting LCC in a must win situation in the second game.

Lane had three hits including an RBI double.  Makaio Mobbs also had three hits.  Tanner Olson took the loss, giving up six runs and 12 hits in 7 2/3 innings of work.

The second game was a back and forth affair as freshman Dakota Clevidence hit a solo homer in the top of the 7th to tie the game up at 2-2.  In the bottom of the 8th, Tacoma got after reliver Jacob Cogar for six runs to blow the game open. Starter Hunter Wells pitched well in his final appearance for LCC. The Gonzaga bound freshman went six innings allowing just four hits, two runs and 10 strikeouts.

Clevidence also had an RBI single in the 2nd inning.

Despite 30-wins, the Devils found themselves on the outside looking in in the tough West Region.  Eight players played in thier final games as Red Devils. It was an emotional scene following the game as teammates exchanged handshakes and hugs.

The Devils will be at the NWAACC tournament serving as the hosts for the eight team afair beginning Thursday. The team hopes the local fans will still come out and support the tournament. For all the information you need, go to nwaacc.org.
