Despite the fine play of Chelsey Miller, the Devils saw the season end in Coos Bay.
DEVILS FIGHT HARD ALL THE WAY TO THE END
The Red Devils knew that they needed help to get into the NWAACC softball championships. Those hopes were dashed with a late game surge by the Southwestern Orgeon Lakers.
On a Mother's Day in Coos Bay, Oregon, the Southwestern Oregon Lakers eliminated the Devils when they scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to beat LCC 6-5. The Devils were clinging to a 5-4 lead when the Lakers erupted to take the win.
Sonny Dorhofer kept her team in the game after five innings of work in the circle. Julie Breidt took the loss.
Chelsey Miller was outstanding in the first game, going 3 for 3 with three RBI's. Miller hit her 6th homer of the season.
Sierra Richards had two hits and two RBI's and
April Wells had two hits.
The Devils and Lakers were locked in a scoreless battle in the second game when LCC plated a run in the top of the 4th. But the ceiling crashed when the Lakers scored nine runs in the 5th inning and took the victory 9-1.
The Red Devils season ended with 20 wins and 16 losses. Despite having a better record than five qualifying teams, the Devils will sit out the NWAACC Tournament after 21 straight years where they collected 10 championships.
