It was beautiful Friday night for baseball. Saturday, not so much.
DEVILS SWEEP LANE
The Red Devils had 27 hits and three taken off the board in a sweep of a weekend series with Lane. Three of the four scheduled games were played before rain called off the finale on Saturday.
LCC won game one Friday night 9-6, won the nightcap 5-1 and then closed out the series with a 9-6 win Saturday morning. LCC had three hits and a run in the first inning of the final game only to have it rained out.
Kyle Rossman got the win in relief in the first game Friday, going 5 1/3 innings in relief of starter
Trevor Lane. The Devils were down 4-1 when Rossman took over and he kept his team in it until bats exploded.
Peter Lecce hit a solo homer to lead off the 4th and then added a three run blast in the 7th. Sandwiched in between was a monstorous blast by
Mason Dunning.
Makaio Mobbs contributed a two run double for the Devils.
In the nightcap Friday,
Tanner Olson went six innings of shutout ball.
Jacob Cogar pitched in mid relief and got some help from
Ryan Smith, who closed out the game in the 9th for the save. Lane went 3 for 4 to lead the offense.
The start time for Saturday's double header was moved up to 10 am to try and finish before the rains came. Lane jumped up 4-0 after two innings as Devil starter
Ethan Kalin couldn't get an out in the first.
Gabe Ihrig came on to minimize the damage, going 3 1/3 innings to get the win.
The Devils rolled seven runs on seven hits in the fateful 3rd inning. The big hits were provided by
Dakota Clevidence (two run single) and Lane (two run single). Clevidence added an RBI single in a two run 4th inning.
Jake Zielinski provided 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief.
Seth Pedersen came on to get the save in the final inning.
The finale of the series was rained out after the teams swapped single runs in the first.
LCC goes to 6-1 on the season with sweep. The Devils take on six game winning streak into a non-league double-header Tuesday night against George Fox University. First pitch at Story Field is slated for 3 pm.
