The Devils come home with a 6th place trophy.
DEVILS CLOSE SEASON 6th IN NWAACC
The Lower Columbia College women's basketball team closed out a great season with a 6th place finish at the NWAACC Championships in Kennewick on Tuesday March 4th.
It didn't end the way they would like, but the Devils have much to be proud of following an 80-69 loss to Clark in the 5th/6th place game.
Against Clark, sophomore
Christian Carlson capped an outstanding three year LCC career with 17 points and five rebounds.
Sierra Richards had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Haley Hibbs had nine points, five renounds and two steals in her final basketball game at LCC.
Arinesha Smith had six points and four assists her her final Red Devil game.
Haley VandenHazel played her final game at LCC and closed it out with two points and a blocked shot.
The Devils came home with a 6th place trophy after getting wins over Chemeketa and Spokane, plus losses to Clark and the eventual champion Columbia Basin.
In the opener against the Storm, a 69-64 win for LCC, Smith led the way with 14 points,
Kaylea Knox had 13 and Carlson scored 12.
Donniesha Webber had nine points and 10 rebounds. Hibbs had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Columbia Basin was too much to handle on day two as the Hawks ran to a 74-57 win over the Devils. Webber had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the way. Smith tallied 12 points, six boards and three assists.
The most exciting win of the tourney was the 67-66 victory over Spokane on day three. The Devils rallied from behind in the final minutes to pull out the win. Smith hit the game winning shot and it was the hustle and defense of
Autumn Moorcroft that fueled the Devils. Moorcroft shut down Bigfoot star Morgan Freeman and forced her to pass off with the game on the line. Smith had 16 points including the game winner, playing with sickness. Carlson had 13 points and nine rebounds and Webber had 11.
The 6th place finish was the first tournament trophy for head coach
Chad Meadors.
