Oscar was a beloved figure in the history of LCC athletics and P.E. He coached the LCC football team for several seasons until the sports was disbanded. Oscar also coached the LCC baseball team and was the first to make improvements to what is now Story Field. He continued on to coach the LCC golf teams in four decades and also introduced the game to hundreds of students in his P.E. classes. Known for his universal greeting "Curly", the Big O was an incredibly popular figure in the Longview-Kelso area.
